| SOIL KIT |
Applications - Soil and sand
Sites of use - Geology and educational institutes, and agricultural organizations
Construction - Includes one handle, one auger, one cylinder, two extension rods - a light, shatter-proof plastic carrying case is sold seperately.
Method of use - After assembling the parts, remove visible stones and other debris from the surface of the soil to be tested.
Hard soil - Place the cylinder on the ground; insert auger through the cylinder. Position the auger vertically and apply pressure while turning the handle until the drill has reached a depth of approximately 20 mm or is firm. Now a minimum amount of pressure should be applied to keep the drill cutting until the full length of the auger is buried into the soil. Release pressure and make a complete turn sharply withdrawing the auger from the soil. This will remove the bulk of the soil from the hole.
Soft soil - Use of the cylinder is optional. For easy operation, follow these instructions. Start the drill one or two turns; stop and pull up slightly to loosen the soil around the drill. Then turn one half turn and repeat the above mentioned procedure. To obtain a full auger, make about three turns and then pull the auger and remove soil. For deeper sampling, proceed as above.
Sand - Use cylinder and follow instructions for soft soil.
