New CRMs for Rare Earth Exploration

New REE CRMs for Exploration: 466 and 467

These newly released certified reference materials are tailored specifically for exploration stage geochemical programs, offering low-level concentrations of light rare earth elements to suit early-stage discovery and delineation efforts.

Designed for Exploration

With TREO + Y₂O₃ values of 0.11% (OREAS 466) and 0.19% (OREAS 467), these CRMs fill a critical gap at the lower end of the rare earth grade spectrum. Their concentration levels make them ideal for portable XRF, fusion with XRF, fusion with ICP-OES/MS, 4-acid digestion ICP-OES/MS used in regional exploration and geochemical mapping.

Both OREAS 466 and 467 are part of a broader REE suite spanning 0.11 to 9.88% TREO + Y₂O₃, providing robust coverage from early exploration through to resource definition and grade control.

The source material comes from the highly weathered red laterites of Western Australia’s Mount Weld Central Lanthanide Deposit—one of the world’s richest rare earth deposits. Hosted in a Proterozoic carbonatite and altered by intense tropical weathering, this deposit yields secondary REE phosphates such as monazite, making it a globally significant and geochemically distinctive source.

To prepare the CRMs, REE-bearing waste rock from Mount Weld was blended with siliclastic sedimentary rock from Victoria, Australia, achieve the target concentrations and matrix matching needed for reliable QA/QC.
